Exams

As your child starts to study for exams they will have to do a lot more work. Supporting your child's learning during this time can help them get the qualifications they need.

Helping with homework (homework can be accessed online via ‘Show My Homework’)

• recommend doing homework as soon as it is received so that the information is fresh in your child's mind

• encourage your child to speak up when in difficulty, as you may be able to help find the answers

• make sure your child has a good work-life balance, and doesn't spend too much time either going out with friends, or sitting and doing homework

• find out about educational programmes online or on television

Coursework

find out about the curriculum and how much work needs to be done

• find out when coursework is due and help your child to make a schedule to complete it

• make sure your child is clear about what they are required to do and how marks are awarded

• find internet sites that can help with studying

• encourage your child to print and save their work regularly if they are working on a computer

• make sure your child has the right books and resources

Revision

• help your child to develop a revision timetable, and help them stick to it

•encourage your child with praise and rewards

• create a suitable environment with a desk away from distractions
