Lay Chaplain

David Hannett, our Lay Chaplain, works within the Pastoral Care team and has primary responsibility for the day-to-day religious life of the school.

The Lay Chaplain is responsible for devising, developing, promoting and running a wide-ranging chaplaincy programme which appeals to the full range of ages (11-19) and degrees of religious interest of the entire school community.

David is responsible for the school chapel and preparation of school liturgies. The place of liturgy is of prime importance within our school and the musical tradition of the school adds greatly to the impact of different religious celebrations during the school year.

Mass is central to our Catholic Faith and is celebrated with the whole school for the Feast of Blessed William Howard in October, Christmas and Easter. A special Mass of Welcome is celebrated every September and the annual leaver’s Masses are seen as a particularly fitting way to mark the occasion of them completing one phase of their education and beginning the next. Form groups have Mass once a week in the Chapel, which are prepared for with morning prayer.

Our Lay Chaplain organises and attends residential retreats for every year group, including sixth form, as well as taking a group of year 10s on the diocesan pilgrimage to Lourdes. These opportunities for spiritual reflection and growth are also a chance to have fun and experience new things and are important aspects of the Catholic life of our school.

David also works along side the RE Department to support the RE curriculum and runs the schools retreat programme and Chaplaincy Team, as well as offering support as needed by individual pupils, staff and parents.
